Quest and Details related to Materials Merchant in Salt and Sacrifice

In order to unlock the Materials Merchant NPC, you need to acquire the Drowned Key from a heavily-guarded chest in Revenant's Keep, within Hallowed Hill.

From the entrance to Revenant's Keep, head west until the end of the path, then jump up to the ledge above and to the left where you'll find a Stone Circle and an Ether Vent. Activate the Stone Circle to reveal some luminous grappling points above. Wall-jump to reach the Ether Vent and ride it up to a rickety platform above. From here, grapple past the stone platform on the right to the second floor area further east. Climb the wooden platform and take the stairs leading to the upper-west. Activate a second Stone Circle that you'll come across to reveal more luminous grappling points and then jump into the Ether Vent.  Grapple through two points onto a long, rickety platform to the west and run towards the wall on the left, wall-jumping up to the grapple point above and following the series of grapple points and vents that lead to a ledge in the upper-east. When you reach the ledge, follow the path east and drop from the wooden platforms to the floor below, where you must continue east, down the stairs and through more wooden platforms to the floor below. Continue west through an archway to a room in the next section, then drop to the floor below. Now head east where the path splits. There is a set of stairs heading downwards and a platform above with two Undead Knights supported by an Aberrant Heart. Take the upper path and head east until you cross an archway leading to another section outside. From here, jump off the ledge and navigate your way across the many grappling points and Ether Vents until you reach a wooden ledge far in the upper-east, heading into a building. Inside the building, there are two Rust Knights and an Aberrant Heart guarding a Treasure Chest. This coffer contains the Drowned Key which unlocks a secret door in Pardoner's Vale.

Return to Pardoner's Vale and head down into the Treacher's Grotto sub-area. Head all the way west to find the door and unlock it using the Drowned Key. This leads to the small room where the Materials Merchant is located.

I just figured out what the crappy materials he sells are for- he only sells mats that you can buy mage trophies with. The devs obviously put him in as a way of just paying silver for the trophy mats so you don't have to do any grinding for them.

Waste of time to even get they key, luckily it wasn’t that hard as far as platforming goes, finished the whole area in under 30 minutes, kind of a let down for a hidden end game area

This npc/merchant reminds me of Archdeacon McDonnel from Darksouls 3 (https://darksouls3.wiki.fextralife.com/Archdeacon+McDonnell), with how there is a relation to the drowning deep and well...the deep, and they both look like enemies but are npc that....dont move that much or say much.

This might be a stretch but seeing this npc the first time, Archdeacon McDonnel was the first thing to come to mind.

Yeah; I'm not the only one bummed out that he sells low-grade easily-farmed mats from Mages; and not say, the stuff we need for actual upgrading.

Would've made the annoying platforming gauntlet worth the trouble lol
