Multiplayer in Salt and Sacrifice is the option and ability to interact with friends online while playing the game. Multiplayer is an available option when progressing through the game that can be accessed only after you've completed introduction or tutorial phase of the game. This page covers different multiplayer and co-op options available in Salt and Sacrifice such as different game modes such as PvP and Cooperative Play, different factions, invasions, and how to enter Multiplayer mode.

Salt and Sacrifice Multiplayer

Multiplayer Features

Multiplayer and Co-op features are also added in Salt and Sacrifice, unlike its predecessor that was only limited to local and couch co-op, this game is instead embracing a full souls-like covenant and online experience. You will be able to use asynchronous features such as leaving messages for others, and engage in fully coordinated PvP and Cooperative play. Salt and Sacrifice features 6 factions:

  • Dawnlight Cooperators - Aid fellow inquisitors in devouring mages. Use a “Pale Candle” to find a host to assist.
  • Oathbound Watchers – Protect Inquistors who have been invaded by members of the Shroud Alliance. Wear an Oathwrit Amulet to be summoned to protect a host.
  • Sheriff Inquisitors – Slay invading Blueheart Runners. Wear a Tealfeather Amulet to be summoned to protect a host.
  • Shroud Alliance – Invade and slay fellow inquisitors. Use a “Page of Curses” to find a world to invade.
  • Blueheart Runners – Hunt creatures called Hazeburnt Husks in the realms of their fellow Inquisitors. Use a “Blue Candle” to find a world to harvest.
  • Chaos Hunter – Invade and can slay hosts, allies, invaders and monsters. Use “Unspeakable Flesh” to find a world to invade. This faction is not yet fully implemented into the game.

Invasions and co-op both work only when the player isn’t “Spellmarked”, which is the equivalent of being “Hollow”. When you want to engage in online play, you need to use a Guiltless Shard that can be looted from many places on the landscape or purchased from a demo vendor. Once you are in the “Atoned” (human) state, you can intiate co-op by using a “Golden Candle”, or wait for PvP adversaries to join as you play. Guardian faction members can be summoned into other worlds even when being Spellmarked.

Multiplayer Items, Locations and Uses.

The following guide describes how Multiplayer Items are obtained and used. All quickplay items assume the user is “in the field”.

Regular co-op mode:

Use the Cooperation Board in Pardoner’s Vale. One Inquisitorhosts, one Inquisitor joins. Use a matching password (not all boxes need to be filled out).

Dawnlight (random quickplay) co-op mode:

The host must be guiltless (use a Guiltless Shard). Then use a Golden Candle (obtained just outside the Root-Ceil Cavern).

The joiner, who does not have to be guiltless, uses a Pale Candle. To obtain this, talk to an NPC beneath and west of the gatehouse at the center of Ashbourne Village, then talk to her again in Pardoner’s Vale.

The two players must be in the same world and have the same ability items unlocked (e.g. grappling hook).

Shroud Alliance PvP:

Find an NPC to the upper-west of the Temple of Bol Gerahn, past a blade trap over some rickety wood. Talk to him again in Pardoner’s Vale (the cave below should now be available) to purchase the Page of Curses item. Use this item while in the field to invade; you can also use the inverted Mirrorgate beneath camp once this faction has been unlocked.

  • Only a player who has summoned a Dawnlight Cooperator or is using a Red Candle (Crimson Candle) can be invaded.

Blueheart Runner PvPvE:

Find an NPC in the west of Stonehall Dungeons, past a locked door (the key to that is in a lockbox at the top-west of Archridge District, and the key to that is in the courtyard to the east of Archridge District,  bove the hydromancer’s clue. Like Shroud PvP, the NPC will appear in Pardoner’s Vale and sell the Blue Candle item. When invading this way, defeat Hazeburnt Husks and collect their Haze to disrupt the  host’s world; repeat a number of times until a victory state is achieved, after which you can also opt to kill the now-weakened host.

  • Only a player who has summoned a Dawnlight Cooperator or is using a Red Candle (Crimson Candle) can be invaded.

Chaos Hunger PvP:

Similar to the previous; the NPC is found in some ethervent tunnels at the bottom of Old Annex below the Temple of Eleven. While invading as a Chaos Hunger, you can help or harm your host. You can also leave them gift items that also might help or harm them; work toward success by killing Inquisitors or somehow convincing your host to open a gift.

  • Only a player who has a Dawnlight Cooperator, Shroud Alliance, or Blueheart Runner in their world, or is using a Red Candle (Crimson Candle) can be invaded.

Oathbound Watcher PvP:

This NPC is found just outside the Great Tree in Corvius' Mire. While wearing an Oathwrit amulet, you will be drawn to worlds threatened by Shroud Alliance and Chaos Hunger invaders as the host’s defender.

Sheriff Inquisitor PvP:

This NPC is found in the Unclean Oasis to the west of the Creeping Caves in Bol Gerahn. While wearing a Tealfeather Amulet, you will be drawn to worlds threatened by Blueheart invaders as the host’s defender.

Cooldowns:

After being invaded, you can’t be invaded for the next fifteen minutes. This cooldown can be reset by using the Full Moon Incense.
